Is Believing In Evolution A Big Deal?

Recently there was a big debate that splashed across the news between the scientist - Bill Nye, and the creationist - Ken Ham. This was watched by millions of people, and from what I read concerning it, it changed few minds. The question comes up from many who claim to be Christian - does it really matter whether one believes in the literal creation account of the Bible, or whether one believes in evolution? Many will add an addendum that God likely created the world through evolution. That, they conclude, is likely the best and most comfortable answer. This latter idea is called theologically "theistic evolution." It is comfortable, they say, because it embraces both theories and is therefore reasonably acceptable to the very smart evolutionist, and the convicted creationist. It may be more tolerated by the evolutionist, but trying to compromise Biblical teaching to get along with those in opposition to it is never right. Let me also say, the so - called "very smart" evolutionist may have a very high IQ, but that does not make him either wise or right. Man is in "darkness" according to the Bible, and is finite at his best. The most foolish thing that any of us can do is to place our own mind or someone else's mind on a pedestal as if they mind were God. No human being is worthy of such a position other than the God-man Christ Jesus. The Scripture states "there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is the way of death" (Prov 14:12).

Redeem The Time God Has Given Us

The recent deaths of high profile people in the entertainment world, and now a prominent Senator with a colorful background, should bring to mind some important philosophical thinking. For the Christian, who should be looking at the world through the lens of divine truth, these individuals and the world's response at their deaths should be opportunities for reflection, and witness. Even a casual realistic observation should bring some sobering thoughts. Here are individuals who had great prominence in the world, but were living tragically for the wrong things. The world on the one hand will argue they made great and lasting contributions to music, the pop culture, or to legislation, etc., but many would believe just the opposite. Many will believe they contributed to the rottenness of our society. They would believe their lives were detrimental. We can have confidence in this, that God will be the ultimate judge of whether there was any substance of value to their lives.

The Oppressive Nature of a Declining America

Proverbs 29:2 states: "When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when a wicked man rules, people groan." I have attempted of late not to watch as much news, but I consider I need to be informed even as to how to pray. In observing our nation, I have done some groaning. As the Congress of the US continues to spend money the nation does not have, and debate a health care proposal that will deceitfully control the health and well being of all Americans and thus give an unreliable government authority over millions of people, I heard one of our liberal congress women argue that "it was moral for the tax payers to pay for abortions." Isaiah 5:20 states "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" Two verses down Isaiah continues to pronounce woes to those "Who justify the wicked for a bribe, And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!" These wicked lawmakers will use any excuse, any method, hook or crook to attain their goals of personal power. But, that is not the end of what Isaiah says for he goes on and makes this pronouncement from the Lord God "Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes stubble And dry grass collapses into the flame, So their root will become like rot and their blossom blow away as dust; For they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel." They can do great damage, but to their own personal peril. God says they will ultimately and tragically fail, and disturbingly they are dragging our nation with them.
